The answer

If the inherited money reached the nisab and a year passed over it before the death of the inheritee, its zakat must be paid before the distribution of the inheritance. If it was distributed before the zakat, then each heir must pay his share. However, if a year passed over it after the death of the inheritee and before its distribution, then each heir must pay zakat on his share if it reaches the nisab by itself or by combining with other money he owns.
