Does the command to cover vessels include both vessels containing food and drink and empty ones?

The Prophetic Sunnah (definition) commands covering and overturning vessels, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Close the doors, tie up the waterskins, overturn the vessels—or cover the vessels—and extinguish the lamps, for Satan does not open a closed door, untie a tied waterskin, nor uncover a vessel." Therefore, a vessel containing food or drink must be covered, and if it is empty, it should be overturned.
