Is the husband obligated to return the gold to his wife in grams after she willingly sold it to him to cover travel expenses, even though she asked him not to return its value?

Issues in dispute between spouses cannot be resolved by a fatwa (definition) from afar. Rather, they should be referred to the Sharia (definition) court or to someone mutually agreeable to both spouses. If the wife sold her gold of her own free will, she has no right to demand that the husband replace it. However, if the husband promised her to repay the price, he should fulfill his promise. Divorce is disliked in Islam and should not be resorted to unless reconciliation becomes impossible.
