The answer

Allah Almighty has mandated for deceased Muslims ritual washing (ghusl), purification, shrouding, prayer, and burial. If these are not possible, then as much as can be done should be performed, in accordance with His saying: "So fear Allah as much as you are able." If the body of the deceased is burned or decomposed, it should not be washed unless water would not increase its decomposition. Otherwise, it should be left as is, shrouded, prayed over, and buried, because the body of a Muslim is to be honored even after death.
