It has been previously explained that Mecca is located at the center of the world, even though there is no explicit text to that effect in the Quran or Sunnah. This is inferred from the verse: (That you may warn the Mother of Cities and those around it), where Qatadah stated that the Mother of Cities is Mecca, and from it the earth was spread out. Al-Raghib Al-Isfahani also said that Mecca was named as such because it is the center of the earth.
