What is the degree of authenticity of the hadith: "O Ammar, Gabriel just came to me, and I said: O Gabriel, tell me about the virtues of Omar ibn al-Khattab in heaven. So he said: O Muhammad, if I were to tell you about the virtues of Omar from the time Noah dwelled among his people for a thousand years save fifty, the virtues of Omar would not be exhausted. And indeed, Omar is but one good deed of Abu Bakr's good deeds"?

The hadith (definition) narrated by Al-Tabarani and Abu Ya'la, from Ammar ibn Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him), is a weak hadith. Its chain of narration revolves around Al-Walid ibn Al-Fadl Al-Anzi and Isma'il ibn Ubayd Al-Ajali Al-Basri. The imams have judged this hadith to be baseless (batil (definition)), fabricated (mawdu'), and a lie (makthub). The virtues of Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) are numerous and well-known, and do not require this hadith.
