The answer

Fasting as expiation for an oath is only valid after one is unable to feed ten needy persons, or clothe them, or free a slave. Scholars differ regarding the necessity of consecutive fasting for the three days: The Hanafis, and the most correct opinion among the Hanbalis, and one view among the Shafi'is, hold that consecutive fasting is obligatory. The Malikis and another view among the Shafi'is permit non-consecutive fasting. The more cautious approach is to fast consecutively, to avoid the اختلاف (disagreement).
