What is the ruling on one who deliberately utters vows and intentions for many different acts of worship, with the intention that they are vows, knowing that this was done in a moment of anger, and knowing that he cannot fulfill all of them?

Fulfilling a vow (nadhr) is obligatory if it is a vow of obedience [to Allah]. As for a vow made in a state of obstinacy or anger, one is given the choice between fulfilling it or offering an expiation for an oath (kaffarat yamin). Whoever is unable to fulfill their vow must offer an expiation for an oath. Whoever does not know the number of vows they have made must investigate and expiate what brings them certainty or strong presumption that their obligation has been discharged. As for obsessive doubts (waswasah), no vow is contracted with them, and no breaking of an oath occurs because of them.
