Is participating in an internet company's prize draw, when subscribing for 3, 6, or 12 months, and winning a lifetime subscription, permissible in Islamic law?

Subscribing to an internet company with the intention of winning a prize is unlawful (haram (definition)) and falls under the category of forbidden gambling (maysir (definition)). Maysir is gambling where at least one party either gains or loses. However, if the participation is for legitimate purposes and continues for the duration stipulated by the competition, then entering the competition is permissible. This is because one either wins the prize and gains, or does not win it and loses nothing, as their participation was not primarily intended to win the prize.
