What is the Shar'i ruling regarding a wife who stirs up problems with her husband's family, leaves the house without his permission, mistreats them, and lies to him, and must he send her living expenses after she goes to her family's house without his permission?

A wife leaving her husband's home without his permission and staying with her family without his consent is considered a forbidden act of defiance (nushooz), and a defiant wife is not entitled to maintenance until she returns to her husband's obedience. It is advisable to attempt reconciliation and resolve the dispute with her by enlisting the help of someone respected to advise her and clarify her error so that she returns to her home, in which case her maintenance becomes obligatory for the husband. She is not obligated to share meals or other things with her husband's family; rather, she has the right to separate accommodation, especially if she is harmed by living with them. If the wife insists on her disobedience and remains outside her home without her husband's permission and consent, she is not entitled to maintenance and is thus considered defiant, disobedient to Allah and to her husband.
