The answer

The majority of scholars hold that a conditional divorce takes effect upon the fulfillment of the condition, and this is the preponderant opinion. So, if you swear by triple divorce that your wife will not go to her family and she goes, a triple divorce takes effect according to the majority, and she becomes unlawful for you until she marries another husband. However, Sheikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah is of the view that an expiation for an oath (kaffarat yamin) is required if one did not intend divorce but rather intimidation. A man does not break his oath if he intended a specific duration and it elapsed, or if he intended to prevent her from going herself and someone else took her, or if the reason ceased without his action.
