The preponderant opinion is that the addition in the hadith of Umm Kulthum bint Uqbah: "And I did not hear of a concession being granted for anything people say as a lie except in three matters: war, reconciling between people, and a man's talk to his wife and a woman's talk to her husband," is from the words of Ibn Shihab Al-Zuhri and is not مرفوعة (attributable) to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. A number of scholars have explicitly stated this, among them Al-Daraqutni, Al-Khatib Al-Baghdadi, and Ibn Hajar, basing their arguments on narrations from more reliable transmitters from Al-Zuhri, such as Yunus and Ma'mar, which distinguished between the words of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and the words of Al-Zuhri.
