The answer

If a person dies leaving a mother, a father, a wife, and one daughter, and no other heirs: The mother receives one-sixth due to the presence of a lineal descendant. The father receives one-sixth due to the presence of a lineal descendant. The wife receives one-eighth due to the presence of a lineal descendant. The daughter receives one-half as a prescribed share. Whatever remains is taken by the father by way of ta'sib (residuary inheritance), based on the hadith: "Give the prescribed shares to their rightful recipients, and whatever remains is for the nearest male." Thus, the inheritance is divided into twenty-four shares: The mother receives four shares, the daughter twelve shares, the wife three shares, and the father four shares. One share remains, which the father takes by ta'sib, making the father's total shares five. It is advisable to refer inheritance matters to the Sharia courts for investigation.
