What are the limits of a husband's responsibility for his wife's adherence to the hijab and religious duties, and is his role limited to advising, or does it extend to compulsion? And does this fall under the category of nushooz (disobedience) mentioned in Allah’s saying: "As for those from whom you fear nushooz (disobedience)"?

Allah commanded the believers to discipline and teach their families, as He Almighty says: "O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire." Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) explained this by saying: "Discipline them and teach them." A man is a guardian over his household and is responsible for his flock. Allah made men in charge of women: "Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has given some over others and by what they spend [to support them] from their wealth." He also granted him the right to discipline her in case of defiance: "But those [wives] from whom you fear defiance - advise them; forsake them in bed; and strike them. But if they obey you [once more], seek no means against them." Defiance (Nushuz) is disobedience to what is obligatory. Scholars differed on the permissibility of striking one's wife for neglecting Allah's rights, and the preponderant opinion is that it is permissible, for a man will be held accountable if he does not oblige his wife to perform religious duties.
