What is the ruling on the ablution of one who performed ablution while wearing socks and then removed them after a period of time? And must he repeat ablution if he wishes to wear them again after having taken them off while still in a state of purity?

The jurists differed regarding someone who removes his khuffayn (leather socks) after wiping over them and before the expiry of the period. The preponderant opinion is that it does not invalidate wudu’. As for someone who wishes to wear them again after removing them and before the expiry of the period, the implication of the preponderant opinion is the permissibility of wearing them and wiping over them as long as the period has not expired and no other naqid (wudu’ invalidator) has occurred. However, a Muslim should exercise caution, and thus consider wudu’ invalidated by the removal of the khuff.
