What is the ruling on a person kissing the hand or foot of someone older than them when greeting them?

The Sunnah (definition) when meeting is to greet with peace (Salam) and to shake hands. Bowing is disliked (makrooh) or forbidden (haram (definition)). As for kissing the feet of parents and those in their status, it is permissible under certain conditions. However, the custom of touching a person's feet, placing the hand over the mouth, and repeating this three times has no basis in Islamic law and may constitute imitation of Hindus, which is forbidden.
