What should the questioner do with the television set he owns, knowing that he does not wish to sell it or dispose of it in ways that might lead to its use in unlawful matters, and is it permissible for him to break it if doing so ensures safety from "this evil"?

Televisions, video players, and PlayStations, which are used for both good and evil, may not be sold except to one who is predominantly believed to use them for permissible purposes, in accordance with the Almighty's saying: (And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression). It is permissible to keep these devices if they are used correctly. If there is a fear of misuse, they can be stored away, or one can look for someone who will buy them for permissible use, or donate them to a charitable educational institution. If the device belongs to the mother, it is not permissible to dispose of it without her consent. The matter should be handled with her in the best manner, explaining the danger of the device to children.
