How do we respond to those who describe Allah with attributes of imperfection, such as eating, fearing, or giving birth, claiming that these befit Him and differ from the attributes of creation?

The attributes of Allah the Almighty are Tawqifiyyah (derived solely from revelation), so He is only described by what He has described Himself with, or what His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, has described Him with in the Qur’an, the Sunnah, and by scholarly consensus. As Imam Ahmad said: "Allah the Almighty is only described by what He has described Himself with, and what His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, has described Him with; we do not go beyond the Qur’an and the Hadith." Therefore, asserting an attribute for Allah that has not been mentioned in the religious proofs is considered speaking about Allah without knowledge, and this is forbidden. Attributes of imperfection are negated from Allah both rationally and legally (by Islamic law). The criterion for affirming attributes is their mention in the religious texts, not merely the negation of resemblance. Attributes of perfection are affirmed by proof, and what contradicts them, such as attributes of imperfection, is negated from Him, whereas the attributes of perfection affirmed for Him do not resemble what the creation is characterized by.
