What is the ruling on repeatedly committing the sin of masturbation and repenting from it, and what should be done about it?

Masturbation is forbidden (haram), and it is obligatory for the one who commits it to repent, feel remorse, and firmly resolve not to return to it. Among the things that help in abandoning it are: supplication and resorting to Allah with sincerity and devotion, choosing righteous companionship, filling free time with beneficial activities, lowering the gaze, and being mindful of Allah's constant watchfulness.
