Is it permissible to pray for one's own death out of fear of religious temptation due to recurring whispers (waswas) and sins after repentance?

The cure for obsessive thoughts is to turn away from them and ignore them. Whoever wishes for death due to obsessive thoughts may wish for it because of the harm that has befallen them, and this falls under wishing for death, which is forbidden. The cure for repeating a sin is to repeatedly repent, not to wish for death. A servant should strive to obey his Lord and repent to Him, and not wish for death to escape from the harm that has befallen them, for obsessive thoughts are an illness that one should seek to cure.
