The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, fasted for nine years after the فرض (imposition) of , because the fasting of Ramadan was imposed in the the second year of the Hijra, and he passed away, peace and blessings be upon him, in Rabi' al-Awwal of the eleventh year of the Hijra. Fasting was enjoined in Medina, and no acts of worship were enjoined in Mecca except for prayer. The foster sister of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is Al-Shaimaa.
