Is the divine call mentioned in the Hadith: "Then He calls out, saying: 'Who is there to supplicate Me so that I may respond to him? Who is there to ask of Me so that I may give him? Who is there to seek My forgiveness so that I may forgive him?'" from the Self (Nafs) or with letters and sound?

The belief of the People of the Sunnah (definition) is that Allah speaks whenever He wills, and His speech is with letters and a voice that is heard, and the Qur’an is from His speech, Exalted be He. They rejected the concept of "Kalam Nafsi" (inner speech) invented by the Ash'aris, which claims that speech is a meaning subsisting in the self, without form or divisibility, and that Moses, peace be upon him, heard it without letters or sound. This necessitates, according to them, that Moses heard all of Allah's speech, and that a translation of the Torah into Arabic would be the Qur'an. The People of the Sunnah responded to this using the Qur'an, the Sunnah, and the consensus of linguists and common understanding.
