A Muslim is required to stay away from filth and impurities to be clean. Sleeping on an impure mattress: If it leads to being smeared with impurity, it must be avoided, as some scholars prohibit being smeared with impurity outside of prayer without necessity. However, if sleeping on it does not lead to being smeared with impurity, such as when the mattress is impure but there is no physical impurity on it, then there is no harm in sleeping on it.
