The answer

The funeral prayer is a communal obligation (fard kifaya) by consensus, not an individual obligation ( ayni) on everyone present at the cemetery. However, witnessing it, praying over it, and burying it contain great good and reward. It has been reported: "Whoever attends a funeral until he prays over it will have a Qirat, and whoever attends until it is buried will have two Qirats." It was asked, "What are the two Qirats?" He replied, "Like two great mountains."
