What is the authenticity of the supplication of Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him: "O Allah, preserve my honor with ease and do not debase my dignity with destitution, lest I seek provision from those who seek Your provision, and seek compassion from the most wicked of Your creation, and be afflicted by the praise of those who give to me, and be tempted by the blame of those who withhold from me, while You, above all that, are the Master of giving and withholding; indeed, You are over all things competent"? What is its benefit, and what is the complete supplication?

This supplication is magnificent. The author of Nahj al-Balagha and others attributed it to Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him. However, it is not mentioned in the books of Sunnah (definition), so its attribution to him cannot be confirmed as authentic. Its wording is: "O Allah, preserve my honor with prosperity, and do not degrade my status with poverty, lest I seek sustenance from those who seek Your provision and beg the worst of Your creation, and be afflicted by praising those who give me, and be tempted by blaming those who withhold from me. And You, behind all of that, are the Giver and the Withholder. Indeed, You are over all things competent."
