The answer

Selling intoxicating alcohol is forbidden, because every intoxicant is Khamr, and every Khamr is forbidden by the Qur’an, the Sunnah, and scholarly consensus. This is because Khamr encompasses every intoxicant, whether alcoholic or otherwise. Whatever clouds the intellect is Khamr. The Companions have unanimously agreed on the prohibition of every intoxicant, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Every intoxicant is Khamr, and every Khamr is forbidden." Therefore, there is no difference in prohibition between one intoxicant and another.
