Is it permissible to perform communal dhikr aloud?
Source: FtawySummarized from the full answer at Ftawy · imported Sep 2, 2026
Collective remembrance (dhikr) in this manner is an innovation (bid‘ah) and is not permissible. It was not reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, nor from his companions. The fundamental principle concerning acts of worship is restriction to what has been legislated (al-tawqif) and adherence (al-ittiba‘), and every act for which there is no command from the Lawgiver is rejected. The esteemed scholars Ibn Baz and Shaykh Al-Uthaymeen stated that collective dhikr is an innovation, and that each person should perform dhikr individually for themselves.
