Is refraining from giving money to a father who requests assistance with maintenance expenses, purchasing a car, and paying for his siblings' tuition fees considered disobedience to parents (ʿUqūq), knowing that the son is employed with a limited salary, is married, and sometimes takes out loans to support his wife?

Children are not obligated to give their father money they need for themselves and their wives, nor money that would harm their own finances. Refusal to do so is not considered an act of disobedience (uquq). However, they must continue to be dutiful and benevolent towards their father to the best of their ability, for being dutiful to one's father is among the best acts of drawing near to Allah. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The parent is the middle of the gates of Paradise, so if you wish, squander this door or preserve it."
