The answer

Alimony for the wife is a religious obligation upon her solvent husband, provided she is not disobedient (nashiz). The obligatory alimony is determined by custom and the husband's financial situation. The husband must spend equitably according to his capacity, and the wife does not have the right to demand more than that as an obligation. The wife is advised to be content with what Allah has apportioned for her, and not to attach her heart to worldly possessions that are beyond reach. She should emulate the wives of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, who chose Allah and His Messenger and the Hereafter over the adornments of this worldly life.
