What is the religious ruling on a husband's frequent swearing by divorce?

If a man swears to his wife by divorce to do something, and she does what he swore by, then no divorce occurs. However, if she does not do it, then divorce occurs according to the majority of scholars. Some verified scholars are of the opinion that if he did not intend divorce, but rather intended to admonish, then he must pay expiation for an oath. Frequent swearing is blameworthy, as Allah Almighty says: "And do not make [your oath by] Allah an excuse against being righteous and fearing Allah and making peace among people" (Surat Al-Baqarah: 224) and "And do not obey every frequent swearer of oaths, a disdained ignoble person" (Surat Al-Qalam: 10). The prohibition is emphasized if the oath is by divorce or by other than Allah, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever swears an oath, let him swear by Allah or remain silent." Frequent swearing by divorce is a sin and a defect that necessitates separation.
