Is the father considered a severer of kinship ties if his ex-wife prevents him from seeing their son?

A divorced wife does not have the right to prevent the father from seeing his son, as that would lead to severing ties of kinship. Although she has become a stranger [to him in terms of marital relations], the father's right to visitation does not cease. Rather, she must enable him to do so, provided it does not violate Islamic law, such as being in seclusion with her. If the mother insists on preventing visitation after the father has made an effort, he is not considered to be severing ties of kinship. The matter can be referred to the Sharia (definition) court to regulate the visitation.
