Is zakat obligatory on the entire amount that has reached the nisab and on which a full year has passed, or only on the unpurified surplus? Is it permissible to give zakat to a needy brother to pay off his debts and provide for his family's needs? Is it permissible to give a portion of the zakat to another brother for marriage? Is it valid to pay zakat before the year is complete to meet the needs of orphans?

First: If wealth reaches the minimum threshold (nisab) and a full year (hawl) passes over it, zakat becomes obligatory. If another year passes and the wealth has increased, zakat becomes obligatory on the entire amount.

Second: It is permissible to give zakat to a poor brother if his maintenance is not obligatory upon you. His maintenance becomes obligatory upon you if you would inherit from him due to the absence of a father, grandfather, and male son, and if you do not have the financial capacity to spend on him, or if he has a debt that he cannot repay. If it is permissible to give him zakat, then you should give him money, not clothes.

Third: It is permissible to assist someone in need of marriage from zakat funds if he is poor and cannot afford the legitimate expenses of marriage.

Fourth: There is no harm in paying zakat before the completion of the year (hawl).
