What is the ruling on posting pictures of children and Anaqid (grape clusters) in forums as topics, or as avatars in forums or chat programs?

Cartoon images of animate beings, free from Sharia prohibitions, are a matter of scholarly disagreement. It is preferable to avoid them, so they should not be used as signatures or profile pictures due to the lack of necessity. Images of trees, rivers, and inanimate objects suffice.
