If a woman requests a divorce for a valid reason, there is no sin in it. Otherwise, it is forbidden, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Any woman who asks her husband for a divorce without any compelling reason, the scent of Paradise will be forbidden to her." A wife has the right to a suitable, independent dwelling, and she cannot be forced to live with her husband's family without her consent. If the husband stipulated in the marriage contract that she would live with his family, and she agreed, then she does not have the right to demand a separate dwelling, especially if he is not financially capable. If a wife leaves her husband's house without an excuse, she is considered disobedient (nashiz). If she asks for a divorce without a reason, there is no sin upon the husband if he does not fulfill her request until some of her rights are forfeited. Efforts should be made to reconcile between the spouses.
