Al-Bayhaqi narrated that Allah commanded a servant to be cast into the Fire. When he stood at its edge, he turned and said, "By Allah, O Lord, my thoughts of You were good." Then Allah Almighty said, "Send him back, for I am as My servant expects Me to be." And in the Qudsi: "I am as My servant expects Me to be." In a narration by Ahmad: "I am as My servant expects Me to be; if he expects good from Me, he will have it, and if he expects evil from Me, he will have it."
