What are the verses and hadiths that encourage seeking beneficial knowledge, especially computer science and the internet, and is there any text that prohibits or permits their use in education?

The Holy Quran and the Prophetic Sunnah (definition) encourage the pursuit of knowledge, as it elevates the status of its possessor in this world and the hereafter. Allah favored Adam over the angels through knowledge. The knowledge intended here is religious knowledge (ilm shar'i). As for learning computer science, the internet, and advanced sciences, it is a communal obligation (fard kifayah) in this era, due to the Muslims' need for them in their daily affairs and in confronting their enemies, in compliance with the Almighty's saying: "And prepare against them whatever you are able of power."
