The question

How can one show kindness to a father after his death, and will Allah forgive him and judge him by his intention, not by his deeds, knowing that he was not fully committed to prayer, and his intention was to repent, and his last words before his death were "Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah)"?

The answer

Prayer is the pillar of faith and its greatest tenet after the two testimonies of faith. Neglecting it is a grave danger. However, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful; He forgives shortcomings. We hope that he has repented from his negligence and that his end was good.

Strive to supplicate for him and give charity on his behalf, for supplication benefits the deceased. It is reported in the authentic : "When a person dies, all his deeds come to an end except for three: a continuous charity, knowledge from which benefit is derived, and a righteous child who supplicates for him."

As for honoring one's parents after their death, it is done by praying for them, seeking forgiveness for them, fulfilling their pledges, maintaining the ties of kinship that are only maintained through them, and honoring their friends.
