What is the ruling on having multiple children in Islam, and does the large number of children the Companions had justify having many offspring, and is there a reward for one who is blessed with such children?

Frequent pregnancies and childbirth are signs of a woman's goodness and virtue. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, encouraged procreation and marriage to a fertile woman, emphasizing that he would boast of his large Ummah (community) on the Day of Resurrection. Islam has encouraged procreation, prophets sought children, and the righteous desired their presence due to the great reward and abundant recompense it entails in this world and the Hereafter. This is because of the reward for spending on children, the prayers of a righteous child after their parents' death, and the virtue of teaching and raising them according to the Qur'an. Whoever turns away from seeking children has contravened the Sunnah (definition) and forfeited this virtue.
