The widely circulated story about a young man, after his burial, experiencing grave torment is unreliable. It is not permissible to claim things that did not happen to frighten people, as warning comes through revelation: the Quran and Sunnah (definition). Furthermore, exhuming a deceased person from their grave is forbidden except out of necessity or a prevailing benefit. If signs of torment appear, they must be concealed, for the sanctity of a Muslim is preserved, alive or dead. Therefore, such matters should not be spread; instead, efforts should be directed towards guiding the living and concealing the faults of the dead.
